Spice of Life Caterers, Inc. was founded by Jon Hoffman in 1981. Prior to this he served as the Managing Director of Food Services for Berkeley’s Student Co-op and as Food Services Director for San Francisco Head Start. Jon started Spice of Life Caterers to provide tasty, nutritious meals for Bay Area children.

Spice of Life Caterers’ mission is to deliver freshly cooked, homemade meals to the children of the Bay Area community, served family style to your Childcare Center. During the past 27 years we have served over twenty million meals to Bay Area children. Our meals are made from scratch to appeal to kids’ taste and health, setting the trend in nutrition standards. No one else provides such well-balanced, diverse menu options. Now it is our focus to provide locally grown organics and vegetarian alternatives to continue setting the trend in health for our children.

Our goal is to make sure your food program is as stress free as possible.

The Child Care Food Program

The majority of our meals are delivered to children who attend Childcare Centers which participate in the Child Care Food Program. These Childcare Centers receive state reimbursement for their meal program depending on the income of their families. If your center is on the Child Care Food Program, you already know that the paperwork required by the state can be overwhelming.

At Spice of Life Caterers, we take over the burden of the majority of the paperwork required by the state. We generate and maintain all food production records, including purchasing invoices. We meet or exceed all state guidelines regarding portion control and nutritional requirements. We bring you a delivery sheet on a daily basis which tells you exactly what you receive and how much, which proves to the state you receive the right amount of food.

If you are audited by the state, we will work with you to provide any records necessary for the state’s approval.
